Whats left of the Tsunami - when it hit parts of California
after traveling across the entire Pacific:
“…a series of very good photos of the surge coming in to Emeryville from a highrise across the freeway.”
– and a Video on YouTube.
A Television News Site in Japan:
NHK (Japanese TV) English Language Service – News Stories in Text and Video
A youtube video that summarizes some Tsunami coverage in Japan:
more videos in the links along the side
Another Japanese TV program site in English.
and Al Jazeera English: Live Stream
– sometimes the best international news coverage.
Had early video coverage of the Quake and Tsunami – has videos on on the site.
(requires latest Flash version)
A Google Service: Person Finder page – if you lost contact with someone there:
available in English and Japanese.
Japanese Language Television – Live, on USTREAM – News, etc.
Parts of Hawaii got up to 11 foot waves – damaged coastal areas.
Parts of California up to 8 foot, fortunately at LOW TIDE – damaged harbors, boats and docks.
– it could have been much worse (up to 5 foot higher, water going inland) and it was a Secondary wave that was the high damaging one, not the first (smaller) ones.
Alaska, South Pacific, not so badly hit (mostly under 3 feet).
The surge waves in Japan near the earthquake were estimated at about (10 meters) 30 feet high, went miles inland.
New on-site measurements are about DOUBLE that, up to 74 Foot Waves in certain areas.
Nuclear Power Plants in dangerous conditions in Japan – Cooling Systems not working.
Radiation Leaks from the Hydrogen Explosion (s), more problems possible.
Some things were just not anticipated fully.
and just to add to the mix: A Volcano eruption – in Japan.
(and cold snowy weather in northern Japan, where the Tsunami was worst)
